
Team Dambulla emerged as champions of the 2026 National Super League 4-Day Tournament after registering a commanding 119-run victory over Team Colombo in the final played on Wednesday.
Led by skipper Dhananjaya de Silva, Dambulla produced an all-round performance with both bat and ball to outclass Colombo and secure the prestigious domestic title.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Team Dambulla posted 222 for 9 declared in their first innings. Middle-order batter Sonal Dinusha top-scored with a patient 51, while Anjala Bandara contributed 40 and Pavan Rathnayake added 39.
Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya was the chief destroyer for Colombo, finishing with impressive figures of 4 for 54.
In reply, Team Colombo faltered against a disciplined Dambulla bowling attack and were dismissed for just 146 runs. Tournament leading wicket-taker Kavindu Pathirathne once again delivered with the ball, claiming 5 for 51. Veteran spinner Akila Dananjaya provided excellent support with three wickets.
Holding a first-innings lead of 76 runs, Dambulla tightened their grip on the contest in the second innings by posting another 222 runs. Surprisingly, it was lower-order batter Akila Dananjaya who top-scored with an unbeaten 53 from the No. 9 position. Nishan Madushka chipped in with 43, while Anjala Bandara made 32.
For Colombo, seamer Chamod Battage impressed with 4 for 55, while Prabath Jayasuriya continued his fine form by taking 3 for 16.
Set a daunting target of 299 for victory, Team Colombo never truly threatened despite a fighting innings from opener Dhananjaya Lakshan, who struck a valiant 84 off 105 deliveries with 12 boundaries. However, he received little support from the rest of the batting line-up.
Right-arm seamer Mohamed Shiraz sealed the win for Dambulla with a decisive four-wicket haul as Colombo were bowled out for 179.
The victory capped off an impressive campaign for Team Dambulla, who displayed consistency and depth throughout the tournament to deservedly lift the National Super League 4-Day crown.
