New Selector Panel Set to Take Charge in Sri Lanka Cricket Shake-up

Date:

A fresh selection committee headed bv Kapila Wijegunawardena has been appointed by the Minister of Sports following the removal of the panel headed by Pramodya Wickremasinghe.

The new group will comprise Kapila Wijegunawardena, Brendon Kuruppu, Amal Silva, Waruna Waragoda and Venessa de Silva, marking another major restructuring within the national cricket setup.

Wickremasinghe, who assumed office in December, has been removed just six months into his tenure after the decision was reportedly conveyed by SLC committee member Prakash Schafter, bringing an abrupt end to his short-lived stint in charge.

This latest change signals yet another significant shift in Sri Lanka cricket’s administrative and cricketing direction, as the board continues its ongoing transformation process.

The reshuffle is being viewed as part of broader changes within Sri Lanka cricket administration, aimed at stabilising performance structures and improving talent identification across domestic and international levels.

The selection panel plays a crucial role in shaping national squads, influencing player selection for tours, series and major ICC events, making any change in its composition highly significant for the future of the game.

Pundits and stakeholders will be closely watching how the new committee settles into its responsibilities amid ongoing efforts to rebuild consistency and confidence in Sri Lanka cricket.

An official announcement from Sri Lanka Cricket is expected in the coming days, formalising the appointments and outlining the mandate of the new selection panel as preparations continue for upcoming international commitments.

More updates are awaited as the restructuring process continues.

Weeks of internal discussions are believed to have preceded the decision, with growing pressure for changes in selection policy and long-term planning for the national team across all formats.

Observers say the move reflects ongoing attempts to reset governance structures and strengthen accountability within the sport’s administration in Sri Lanka cricket system and beyond overall game.
