Date:

In a contest that ebbed and flowed right till the final ball and beyond, Sri Lanka A edged India A in a dramatic Super Over finish after both sides finished locked at 265 in the fourth match of the Sri Lanka A-Team Tri Series at Dambulla on June 15, 2026.

Batting first, India A posted a competitive 265 in 49.2 overs, built on key contributions through the middle and lower order. Suryansh Shedge led the charge with a composed 72 off 66 balls, while Vipraj Nigam provided late fireworks with a brisk 51 off 49 deliveries. Ruturaj Gaikwad (37) and Tilak Varma (23) gave the innings early stability, but regular breakthroughs from Sri Lanka A bowlers prevented a truly dominant total.

Vijayakanth Viyaskanth was the standout performer with the ball, spinning a web around the middle order to claim 3 for 26 in his 10 overs. Mohamed Shiraz also impressed with 3 for 33, striking at crucial moments to stall India A’s momentum.

Chasing 266, Sri Lanka A produced a spirited response anchored by Sadeera Samarawickrama. The experienced batter played a masterful knock of 93 off 113 balls, holding the innings together even as wickets fell around him. Niroshan Dickwella (37) and Avishka Fernando (22 off 14) provided early impetus, while Vishen Halambage added a quick 17 to keep the chase on track.

India A, however, fought back strongly through their spin attack. Ayush Badoni picked up 2 for 45, while Arshad Khan and Nishant Sindhu chipped in with key breakthroughs. With Sri Lanka A needing 11 off the final over, they eventually finished on 265 for 9, forcing a Super Over.

In the Super Over, Sri Lanka A struck first and managed 16 without loss, thanks to Sahan Arachchige and Avishka Fernando. India A could only manage 9 in reply, with Sri Lanka’s tight bowling under pressure sealing a memorable win.

The match also featured drama, including a penalty incident involving Vipraj Nigam stepping down the pitch, adding to the tension of an already gripping encounter.

In the end, Sri Lanka A held their nerve when it mattered most, walking away with a hard-fought victory and two points from a game that showcased the rising depth and competitiveness of both sides.
