Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that players seeking to participate in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) will only be issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) upon successfully passing the board’s mandatory Physical Performance Test.
The decision comes as part of an ongoing effort to raise fitness standards among nationally contracted players. At present, SLC is conducting an eight-week specialised physical training programme aimed at improving overall performance levels ahead of upcoming international assignments.
In addition to the training programme, players are required to undergo Physical Performance Tests — a routine evaluation process used to assess fitness levels. Under the new directive, only those who meet the required standards will be cleared to play in domestic competitions and granted NOCs to feature in the IPL.
So far, Dushmantha Chameera, Pathum Nissanka, and Kamindu Mendis have successfully completed their tests and have been issued NOCs for IPL 2026.
Meanwhile, Nuwan Thushara will have his eligibility determined following the completion of his Physical Performance Test.
Players currently recovering from injuries — including Wanindu Hasaranga, Eshan Malinga, and Matheesha Pathirana — are yet to undergo the tests. SLC confirmed that they will be assessed after completing their rehabilitation programmes.
The move reinforces SLC’s focus on fitness as a key selection criterion, making it a prerequisite for both domestic and international participation, including franchise leagues such as the IPL.
