Sri Lanka’s selectors have nominated fast bowler Pramod Madushan as the replacement for Eshan Malinga, who has been ruled out of the World Cup after dislocating his shoulder during the second T20 International against England in Pallekele.
Malinga, named in the original 15-man squad despite concerns over his fitness, sustained the injury in the eighth over of England’s chase. Bowling immediately after a lengthy rain interruption, he appeared to tweak his non-bowling shoulder in his follow-through and collapsed to the turf in visible pain. The delivery was adjudged a waist-high no-ball.
Madushan, 24, was part of the England series squad as an additional seamer but did not feature and later missed out on World Cup selection. However, the selectors have now forwarded his name to the ICC, confirming him as Malinga’s replacement.
Madushan joins Dushmantha Chameera and Matheesha Pathirana in a three-pronged pace attack as Sri Lanka begin their campaign against Ireland on Sunday at the R Premadasa Stadium.
