Sri Lanka Cricket’s High Performance Centre at R. Premadasa Stadium has been reshuffled—yet again—in what is being pitched as a bold move to arrest the game’s worrying decline.
The proposal, driven by HPC head Jerome Jayaratne, is part of a broader overhaul aimed at reviving standards and producing players ready for the rigours of international cricket. Adding weight to the setup is former head coach Sanath Jayasuriya, now drafted in as a consultant.
But here’s the uncomfortable question:
Can reshuffling the same individuals who have presided over years of stagnation truly spark change?
For years, the HPC has been under scrutiny—criticised for its inability to consistently deliver cricketers equipped for the international stage. The talent pipeline has looked uncertain, the transition from domestic to international cricket shaky at best.
So is this a genuine reset—or merely a cosmetic shuffle?
Sri Lanka cricket doesn’t just need tweaks. It needs vision. It needs accountability. And perhaps most importantly, it needs fresh minds with modern ideas to break free from a cycle that has yielded diminishing returns.
Because if the system remains the same, can we really expect a different outcome?
