Future Stars in the Making: U19 Talent Shines in National Super League Squads!

Date:

The recently announced squads for the National Super League 4-Day Tournament have sparked plenty of excitement, not just for the big names involved, but for the promising young talent now being given a platform to shine. One of the standout aspects of these squads is the inclusion of Under-19 players in every team — a clear signal that the selectors, under the guidance of Pramodya Wickremasinghe, are planning with the future of Sri Lankan cricket firmly in mind.

Each team has been strengthened with U19 players, ensuring that the country’s brightest young prospects get invaluable exposure to first-class cricket. Playing alongside seasoned internationals like Dhananjaya de Silva, Dinesh Chandimal, and Charith Asalanka, these youngsters will experience the pressures, routines, and rigours of professional cricket — lessons that no junior tournament alone can provide.

The move is as much about learning as it is about competing. These young cricketers now have the chance to observe how experienced players prepare for long innings, handle challenging bowling attacks, and maintain consistency over four days of intense cricket. They will also face the mental and physical demands of first-class cricket, which will be a huge step in their overall development.

From Dambulla to Colombo, each team has a carefully balanced mix of youth and experience. Dambulla welcomes Himal Ravihansa (U19), Kandy includes Chamika Heenatigala (U19), Dimantha Mahavithana and Vigneshwaran Akash (U19), Galle has Dulnith Sigera (U19) and Viran Chamuditha (U19), and Colombo features Kavija Gamage (U19) and Sethmika Seneviratne (U19). These players represent the country’s future, and their development will be closely watched in the coming years.

The inclusion of young talent demonstrates that the selection committee is thinking beyond immediate results, prioritising a system that builds sustainable strength for Sri Lanka cricket. With the right guidance, these youngsters could soon make a seamless transition into the national side.

Smart thinking, strategic planning, and a clear vision for the future — the National Super League 4-Day Tournament is not just about competition; it’s about shaping the next generation of Sri Lankan cricket stars. 🇱🇰🔥
