Sri Lanka Women Set for Tough World Cup Opener Against England

Date:

Sri Lanka Women will begin their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a challenging encounter against hosts England on Friday, June 12, in Birmingham.

The Lionesses have been drawn in Group 2 alongside England, New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland and West Indies, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals.

Led by a squad eager to make its mark on the global stage, Sri Lanka will face one of the tournament favourites in their opening fixture. A positive start could prove crucial in what is expected to be a highly competitive group.

Following the England clash, Sri Lanka will take on New Zealand on June 16, West Indies on June 21, Ireland on June 23 and Scotland on June 26.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 features 12 teams divided into two groups, with the tournament culminating in the final at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 5.

Sri Lanka will be aiming to build on recent progress in women’s cricket and challenge for a place in the knockout stages as they begin their World Cup journey in England.
